Acute myelogenous leukemia
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a blood cancer characterized by the abnormal proliferation of myeloid white blood cells (rather than lymphoid white blood cells). It is characterized by the rapid proliferation of abnormal cells in the bone marrow, which affects the production of normal blood cells. AML is the most common acute leukemia in adults, and its incidence increases with age. AML is still a relatively rare disease, accounting for about 1.2% of cancer deaths in the United States.
