Xianglian Huazhi Pills
Function and Efficacy
This prescription is composed of 12 herbs. It is an effective medicine for treating tenesmus, burning sensation in the anus, abdominal pain, diarrhea, red and white pus and blood in diarrhea or accompanied by bitter taste in the mouth, thirst, loss of appetite, vomiting and hiccups caused by damp-heat stagnation. In the prescription, coptis root and scutellaria baicalensis are the main herbs for clearing heat and drying dampness; costusroot, dried orange peel, green peel, immature bitter orange, and magnolia bark are used to promote qi and relieve pain; talcum powder is used to clear heat and remove dampness, and betel nut is used to promote qi and remove stagnation; white atractylodes is used to strengthen the spleen and dry dampness, and angelica is used to nourish blood and promote blood circulation; and licorice is used to harmonize the various herbs. The whole prescription is used together to achieve the effects of clearing heat and removing dampness, promoting qi and promoting blood circulation, and removing stagnation and relieving pain.
