Butorphanol tartrate

Function and Efficacy

This product and its main metabolites stimulate K-opioid peptide receptors, and have both stimulatory and antagonistic effects on U-receptors. It mainly interacts with these receptors in the central nervous system (CNS) to indirectly exert its pharmacological effects, including analgesic effects. In addition to analgesic effects, the effects on the CNS include reducing spontaneous breathing of the respiratory system, coughing, exciting the vomiting center, miosis, sedation and other pharmacological effects. Its effects may be achieved through non-CNS mechanisms. For example, it changes the resistance and capacitance of the heart and blood vessels (nerves), bronchial motor tension, gastrointestinal secretion, motor muscle activity and bladder sphincter activity.
