Mezlocillin Sodium for Injection
Function and Efficacy
This product is a semi-synthetic penicillin antibiotic. It has an antibacterial effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus, Enterobacter, Citrobacter, Serratia, Acinetobacter, and Gram-positive cocci sensitive to penicillin. It has a bactericidal effect in large doses. Its antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Enterobacter, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Citrobacter, Serratia, and Acinetobacter is stronger than that of carbenicillin and ampicillin; its antibacterial activity against indole-positive Proteus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa is stronger than that of carbenicillin and sulbenicillin; its antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus is similar to that of carbenicillin, and its antibacterial activity against Streptococcus faecalis is superior to that of carbenicillin and sulbenicillin. It has a good antibacterial effect against most anaerobic bacteria such as Bacteroides fragilis. This product has good in vitro test results.

Appearance
This product is white or off-white powder or crystal or loose lump.
Indication
It is used for infections of the respiratory system, urinary system, digestive system, gynecological system and reproductive organs caused by sensitive strains of Gram-negative bacilli such as Escherichia coli, Enterobacter, Proteus, etc., such as sepsis, purulent meningitis, peritonitis, osteomyelitis, skin and soft tissue infections, and eye, ear, nose and throat infections.
Usage and Dosage
Intramuscular injection, intravenous injection or intravenous drip. For intramuscular injection, add sterile injection water to dissolve before use. For intravenous injection, usually add 5% glucose sodium chloride injection or 5%-10% glucose injection to dissolve before use. Adults take 2-6g a day, which can be increased to 8-12g for severe infection, and up to 15g. For children, 0.1-0.2g/kg per day based on body weight, which can be increased to 0.3g/kg for severe infection; intramuscular injection 2-4 times a day, intravenous drip once every 6-8 hours as needed, the dosage depends on the condition, and severe cases can be injected intravenously once every 4-6 hours.
Adverse Reactions
The main adverse reactions are: anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, local pain after intramuscular injection and rash, which mostly occur during the administration process. Most of them are mild and do not affect the continued use of the drug. In severe cases, the above symptoms are rapidly alleviated or disappear after stopping the drug. In a few cases, serum aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase and transient increase in eosinophils may occur. Neutropenia and hypokalemia are extremely rare. No serious reactions such as changes in renal function and blood electrolyte disorders were observed.
Precautions
It is contraindicated for those who are allergic to penicillin antibiotics. [Use in pregnant and lactating women] This product can enter the fetal blood circulation through the placenta and a small amount is secreted with breast milk. Although there are no reports of serious problems with the use of this product by lactating women, pregnant and lactating women still need to weigh the pros and cons, because it can sensitize infants and cause diarrhea, rash, Candida infection, etc. [Use in the elderly] Elderly patients have impaired renal function and need to adjust the dosage.
Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: Use with caution in pregnant and lactating women. Precautions for the elderly: Elderly patients have impaired renal function and the dosage must be adjusted.
Drug Interactions
1. Antibiotics such as chloramphenicol, erythromycin, tetracyclines and antibacterial agents such as sulfonamides can interfere with the bactericidal activity of this product and should not be used in combination with this product, especially in the treatment of meningitis or severe infections that urgently require bactericides. 2. Probenecid, aspirin, indomethacin, phenylbutazone and sulfonamides can reduce the excretion of this product from the kidneys, so when used in combination with this product, its blood concentration will increase, the excretion time will be prolonged, and the toxicity may also increase. 3. This product is incompatible with heavy metals, especially copper, zinc and mercury, because the latter can destroy its oxidized thiazole ring. Rubber tubes or bottle stoppers made of zinc compounds can also affect its activity. It can also be inactivated by oxidants, reducing agents or hydroxyl compounds. 4. This product will become turbid after adding cephalothin, lincomycin, tetracycline, vancomycin, erythromycin ethylsuccinate, amphotericin B, norepinephrine, metaraminol, phenytoin sodium, hydroxyzine hydrochloride, prochlorperazine, promethazine, vitamin B group, vitamin C, etc. to the intravenous infusion. 5. Avoid using with drugs with strong acidity and alkalinity. Precipitation will occur below pH 4.5, and the potency will decrease rapidly below pH 4.0 and above pH 8.0. 6. This product can enhance the effect of warfarin. 7. It has a synergistic effect when used in combination with aminoglycoside antibiotics, but after mixing, the antibacterial activity of the two drugs is significantly weakened, so the two drugs cannot be placed in the same container for administration.
