Prothionamide Tablets

This product is a derivative of isonicotinic acid. Its mechanism of action is unknown. It may have an inhibitory effect on peptide synthesis. The effect of this product on Mycobacterium tuberculosis depends on the drug concentration at the infected site. It only has an antibacterial effect at low concentrations and a bactericidal effect at high concentrations. It inhibits the synthesis of mycolic acid in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This product has partial cross-resistance with ethionamide.

This product is an enteric-coated tablet, which appears yellow after removing the coating.

This product is only effective against mycobacteria. It is used in combination with other anti-tuberculosis drugs for patients with tuberculosis who have not responded to first-line treatment with drugs (such as streptomycin, isoniazid, rifampicin and ethambutol).

1. The common dosage for adults is taken orally, and used in combination with other anti-tuberculosis drugs, 250 mg at a time, 2 to 3 times a day. 2. The common dosage for children is taken orally, and used in combination with other anti-tuberculosis drugs, 4 to 5 mg/kg at a time, 3 times a day.
