Function and Efficacy
Similar to dimercaprol, it has two sulfhydryl groups (-SH) on the carbon chain, which can compete with the sulfhydryl groups of tissue proteins and enzymes in the body to bind to metal ions, and can capture metal ions that have been bound to enzymes, thereby protecting and restoring the activity of the enzymes. The complex formed by this product binding to metal ions is mainly excreted in the urine.
Ingredients
The main component and chemical name of this product are: 2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid disodium salt trihydrate. Molecular formula: C4H4Na2O4S23H2O, molecular weight: 280.23.
Indication
This product is used to treat metal poisoning such as antimony, mercury, arsenic, lead, copper and hepatolenticular degeneration.
Usage and Dosage
The usual adult dose is 1 g. Prepare a 10% solution for immediate use and inject slowly into the vein immediately. The injection should be completed in 10 to 15 minutes.
Adverse Reactions
About 50% of patients experience mild dizziness, headache, limb weakness, bad breath, nausea, abdominal pain during intravenous injection of this product. A few patients have rashes, which are red papules and itchy, mostly on the face, forehead, and chest. Other adverse reactions include dry throat, chest tightness, and decreased appetite. Some patients have temporary increases in serum alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase. This product has no damage to the kidneys. Most adverse reactions are related to the speed of intravenous injection and will disappear on their own after stopping the drug.
Precautions
It is contraindicated in patients with severe liver dysfunction.
Drug Interactions
During the use of this product to treat heavy metal poisoning, the excretion of zinc and copper in urine increases slightly, but this has no clinical significance and there is no need to supplement zinc and copper.
