Acute intermittent porphyria in children
Acute intermittent porphyria (AIP), also known as hepatic porphyria and pyrroloporphyria, is a common type of porphyria. It was first reported by Gunther in 1911, and Waldenstrom fully described the disease based on extensive family studies in 1937. The disease is autosomal dominant. The main clinical manifestations include abdominal pain, peripheral nerve damage, hypothalamic lesions, mental disorders, photosensitive skin damage (photosensitive skin damage is an inflammatory reaction caused by exogenous photosensitive substances contacting the skin or entering the body through sun exposure. The former is called photocontact dermatitis and the latter is photodrug dermatitis) and large amounts of ALA and porphyrinogen excreted in the urine.
