Atropine sulfate eye ointment
Function and Efficacy
Atropine blocks the M cholinergic receptors, causing the pupillary sphincter and ciliary muscle to relax, resulting in the dominance of the pupil dilation muscle innervated by the noradrenergic nerve, which causes the pupil to dilate. The pupil dilation pushes the iris toward the iridocorneal angle, preventing the aqueous humor from draining into the scleral venous sinus through the trabecular meshwork, causing increased intraocular pressure. Atropine relaxes the ciliary muscle, tightens the suspensory ligament, flattens the lens, reduces its refractive power, and causes accommodation paralysis, resulting in a state where distant objects are clear but near objects are blurry.
Ingredients
The main ingredient of this product is atropine sulfate. Its chemical name is α-(hydroxymethyl)phenylacetic acid 8-methyl-8-azabicyclo[3.2.1]-3-octyl ester sulfate monohydrate.

Indication
Keratitis, iridocyclitis, pupil dilation before and after cataract surgery and before optometry.
Usage and Dosage
Apply to the inner eyelids three times a day.

Drug Interactions
Tricyclic antidepressants, H1-receptor blockers, anticholinergic anti-Parkinson's disease drugs, phenothiazine antipsychotics, etc. all have anticholinergic effects. When used together, they can aggravate atropine-like adverse reactions such as urinary retention, constipation, and dry mouth.
