Povidone-iodine cream
Function and Efficacy
Povidone-iodine belongs to the iodine follicle disinfectant. The 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone homopolymer is a surfactant, which helps the solution to wet and penetrate objects, thereby enhancing the bactericidal effect of iodine. Experiments have shown that this type of disinfectant (iodine follicle) can destroy the permeability barrier of bacterial cell walls, leak nucleic acids, reduce enzyme activity, and thus kill bacteria. Povidone-iodine has a good killing effect on bacterial propagules, fungi, and respiratory and enteric viruses. Its bactericidal effect is enhanced as the free iodine contained in the solution increases.
