Adverse Reactions

Since ribavirin reacts in red blood cells, the subjective serious adverse reaction is hemolytic anemia, which may worsen existing heart disease. Ribavirin usually inhibits glutathione, thereby damaging the cell membrane of red blood cells and causing the lysis of oxygen-depleted red blood cells. The gradual decrease in red blood cells can also lead to anemia. Anemia may be alleviated by reducing the dosage. Ribavirin can also have a teratogenic effect. ① Anemia, leukopenia. ② Rash, diarrhea, gastrointestinal bleeding. ③ Increased serum bilirubin.
