Levothyroxine Sodium Tablets

Thyroid hormone drugs. This product is a synthetic sodium tetraiodothyronine, which is converted into triiodothyronine (T3) in the body and its activity is enhanced. It has the functions of maintaining normal growth and development of the human body, promoting metabolism, increasing heat production and improving the sensitivity of the sympathetic-adrenal system.

The main ingredient of this product is: levothyroxine sodium. Its chemical name is: O-(4-hydroxy-3,5-diiodophenyl)-3,5-diiodo-L-tyrosine monosodium salt.

This product is white tablets.

It is suitable for long-term replacement treatment of congenital hypothyroidism (cretinism) and hypothyroidism caused by various reasons in children and adults. It can also be used for suppression (and replacement) treatment of simple goiter, chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, and thyroid cancer surgery. It can also be used for suppression tests to diagnose hyperthyroidism.

Oral administration for adults: Generally, 25-50 μg is used initially per day, and the maximum dose does not exceed 100 μg. The dose can be increased by 25-50 μg every 2-4 weeks until normal metabolism is maintained. The general maintenance dose is 50-200 μg/day. Elderly patients or patients with cardiovascular diseases: The initial dose is preferably 12.5-25 μg, and the dose can be increased every 3-4 weeks, with an increase of 12.5-25 μg each time. After taking the drug, the patient should be closely observed for increased heart rate, arrhythmia, changes in blood pressure, and the blood thyroid hormone level should be monitored regularly. If necessary, the dose should be temporarily increased or reduced.

Symptoms of overdose include angina pectoris, arrhythmia, palpitations, diarrhea, vomiting, tremor, excitement, headache, restlessness, insomnia, sweating, hot flashes, weight loss, skeletal muscle cramps, etc. These symptoms usually disappear after reducing the dosage or stopping the drug for a few days.

It is contraindicated for patients with non-hypothyroid heart failure, tachyarrhythmias, recent myocardial infarction, and those who are allergic to the drug.

Unlike levothyroxine, antithyroid drugs can cross the placenta and reduce fetal thyroid function. Precautions for the elderly: The dosage of levothyroxine sodium tablets must be used with great caution in elderly patients. They should start with a small dose and increase the dose at longer intervals, that is, increase the dose slowly, and monitor blood thyroxine levels regularly.

Anticonvulsants such as carbamazepine and phenytoin sodium accelerate the metabolism of levothyroxine sodium and displace thyroxine from plasma proteins; 4. This product is used together with cardiac glycosides, and the dosage of cardiac glycosides must be adjusted accordingly; 5. Levothyroxine sodium will also increase the effect of sympathomimetic drugs; 6. Levothyroxine sodium increases the sensitivity of catecholamine receptors, thereby enhancing the effect of tricyclic antidepressants; 7. Cholestyramine reduces the absorption of levothyroxine sodium, and oral contraceptives should be used at the same time.
