Carteolol Hydrochloride Eye Drops

Pharmacological action: 1 Carteolol hydrochloride is a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker that blocks both beta-1 and beta-2 receptors. Carteolol hydrochloride has little or no local anesthetic effect. 2 The main difference between carteolol and other beta-receptor blockers is that it has intrinsic sympathomimetic activity. 3 This product is carteolol hydrochloride eye drops, which has an intraocular hypotensive effect on patients with high and normal intraocular pressure, and can reduce intraocular pressure by 22-25%. 4 The main metabolite of carteolol, 8-hydroxy-carteolol, is an ocular beta-receptor blocker that also has an intraocular hypotensive effect, which may be related to the longer duration of carteolol's intraocular hypotensive effect. 5 The intraocular hypotensive mechanism of this product is mainly to reduce the production of aqueous humor. This product has no effect on the outflow of aqueous humor through the uveal sclera, the ease of aqueous humor outflow, and the scleral venous pressure. Non-clinical toxicology studies: Carcinogenicity: Animal experiments showed that large-scale oral administration of carteolol hydrochloride to rats and mice for 2 consecutive years did not produce carcinogenic toxicity. Mutagenicity: In vivo and in vitro animal experiments did not show that carteolol hydrochloride had mutagenic activity. Reproductive toxicity: Animal experiments showed that large-dose oral administration of carteolol hydrochloride had no effect on the reproductive function of male and female rats and mice.

This product is a colorless clear solution.

It has a good effect of reducing intraocular pressure in primary open-angle glaucoma. For some secondary glaucoma, ocular hypertension, closed-angle glaucoma that is not completely controlled after surgery, and other glaucoma that is ineffective with other drugs and surgery, the addition of this product to the eye drops can further enhance the effect of reducing intraocular pressure.

Eye drops, 2 times a day, 1 drop each time. Drop into the conjunctival sac, and press the inner corner of the lacrimal sac with your fingers for 3 to 5 minutes.

Some patients experienced the following adverse reactions: blurred vision, photophobia, ptosis, conjunctivitis, corneal staining and moderate corneal anesthesia. 3. It is not clear whether this product is secreted through breast milk. It is known that similar drugs such as timolol maleate eye drops can be detected in the breast milk of breastfeeding women after eye drops, and have a variety of potential adverse reactions to breastfeeding infants, so breastfeeding women should weigh the pros and cons and use it under the guidance of a doctor. Precautions for the elderly: It is not yet clear.

1. Combination with epinephrine may cause pupil dilation. 2. Patients who are taking catecholamine-depleting drugs (such as reserpine) should be closely observed when using this product, as it may cause hypotension and significant bradycardia. 3. It is not recommended to use two local beta-receptor blockers at the same time. This product should be used with caution in patients who are taking oral beta-receptor blockers. 4. This product should be used with caution in combination with calcium channel antagonists, as it may cause atrioventricular conduction block, left ventricular failure and hypotension. For patients with impaired cardiac function, the two drugs should be avoided in combination. 5. This product can further prolong atrioventricular conduction time when used in combination with digitalis and calcium channel antagonists. 6. Phenothiazines can increase the antihypertensive effect of beta-receptor blockers because they can inhibit each other's metabolic pathways.
