Azithromycin Hydrochloride Injection
Function and Efficacy
Silymarin has been shown to neutralize poisoning caused by muscimol, alpha;-amanitin (a toxic substance found in the fungus Amanita phalloides), carbon tetrachloride, galactosamine, and thioacetamide in various models of toxic liver damage. The therapeutic effect of silymarin is attributed to its several sites of action and mechanisms of action: Due to its ability to capture free radicals, Ligalon (silymarin capsules) has antiperoxidative activity. The pathophysiological process of lipid peroxidation (causing damage to cell membranes) can be interrupted or prevented by silymarin. And in already damaged liver cells, silymarin stimulates protein synthesis and normalizes phospholipid metabolism. In summary, the greatest contribution of silymarin is its stabilizing effect on liver cell membranes, which prevents or avoids the loss of dissolved cell components (such as transaminases). Silymarin can limit the penetration of certain hepatotoxic substances (such as alpha;-amanitin) into the cell interior. The enhancement of protein synthesis capacity is due to silymarin stimulating the activity of RNA polymerase I in the cell nucleus, thus helping the synthesis of ribosomal RNA in liver cells, while leading to the massive synthesis of structural and functional proteins (enzymes). Therefore, silymarin can enhance the repair and regeneration capacity of damaged liver cells. Silymarin can reduce free radical-mediated liver cell damage and liver tissue inflammation by scavenging free radicals, inhibiting their triggering of liver fibrosis; in addition, it can inhibit the fibrosis mechanism by down-regulating type I collagen mRNA; it can inhibit the synthesis of metalloproteinase tissue inhibitor-1 by down-regulating metalloproteinase tissue inhibitor-1 mRNA, and promote the collagen reduction mechanism. Therefore, silymarin has indirect and direct anti-fibrosis effects.
