INTRODUCTION:

Molecular formula: C5H11NO2S

　　Descriptions: Colorless or white glossy flake-like crystal, or white crystalline powder. With slight special odor, taste slightly bitter. Melting point 280-281 ℃(dissolution). Instable to strong acid, demethylation can be resulted. Soluble in water（5.6g/100ml,30℃）, warm dilute ethanol, alkaline solution and dilute mineral acids. Difficult to be soluble in ethanol, nearly insoluble in ether.

　　Applications: Nutrition supplement. One of the essential amino acids for human. DL-Methionine is usually used to replace L-Methionine because they have same effect while L-Methionine costs higher.

It is an enantiomer of a D-methionine. It is a tautomer of a L-methionine zwitterion.|A sulfur containing essential amino acid that is important in many body functions. It is a chelating agent for heavy metals.|Methionine is one of nine essential amino acids in humans (provided by food), Methionine is required for growth and tissue repair. A sulphur-containing amino acid, methionine improves the tone and pliability of skin, hair, and strengthens nails.
