  • Description
    Chemical properties:
Light yellow transparent cubic crystal. Melting point 2700 ℃. The relative density is 3.217. Soluble in molten potassium hydroxide, insoluble in cold, hot water and acid. The crystal structure is regular, has good chemical inertness, and has a good tolerance to oxidation and thermal fluctuations. It has a low expansion coefficient and a high heat transfer coefficient. Experiments show that at a high temperature of 2300 ° C, the silicon carbide solid surface contains only 5% free silicon in the gas phase. And with high hardness and semiconductority.

    use:
Used as a reinforcing material for composite materials, it plays the role of isotropic reinforcement. Composite materials with plastics, metals, and ceramics can improve various characteristics. It can be combined with thermoplastic and thermosetting resins to significantly improve the strength, elastic modulus, thermal conductivity, and wear resistance of plastics. By adding 15% silicon carbide whiskers to PEEK, the thermal conductivity is increased by about 2 times, and the flexural strength of polyimide reinforced with 20% silicon carbide is increased by about 2 times at normal temperature, at a high temperature of 250 ℃ and normal temperature The situation is the same without enhancement. When adding 15% silicon carbide to the epoxy resin, the amount of wear is reduced by 17%.
    ECHEMI Editorial Reference
Known for its extreme hardness, this compound occurs naturally as moissanite. It has high thermal conductivity and chemical resistance.
