Carbomer is a white, loose powder with strong hygroscopicity, soluble in water, ethanol and glycerol. When we use Carbomer, we will put it into water or other polar solvents and dissolve it into carbomer gel. In this way, Carbomer is mainly used as thickening agent, suspending agent, adhesive, matrix of gel and slow and controlled release preparation of skeleton material. Commonly used concentration is 0.1% ~ 3%, at low dosage (0.25% ~ 0.5%), it can produce high efficiency thickening effect, thus preparing gel preparation with wide viscosity range and rheological property.
Skin gel
Because carbomer gel is easy to coat and absorbs tissue exudates, it is good for removing the secretions, especially for seborrheic dermatosis.
Ophthalmic gel
Due to eyelid blinking and tear secretion, only 1% - 10% of the drugs can pass through the cornea, and the bioavailability is low. Carbomer ophthalmic gel can extend the retention time of drugs in the cornea, thereby increasing drug absorption and prolonging the time of action.
Oral gel
Carbomer gel matrix has good adhesion and film-forming properties. Carbomer 940 is used as matrix to prepare potassium oxalate gel with certain viscosity and adhesion. It can obviously prolong the retention time of drugs in the oral cavity and enhance the curative effect. Tea polyphenols oral gel was prepared with carbomer 940 and glycerol as substrate to kill oral bacteria. The gel was stable in nature, accurate in content, and easy to prepare and use.
Gel for ultrasound diagnosis
Carbomer 940 can be used as the main matrix for the preparation of coupling agents. Its gel manufactured goods have the advantages of no toxic side effects on human skin, no damage to probes, no pollution of clothing, lubrication, viscosity and stability of preparations. Carbomer 940 was used as the main substrate to prepare gel for ultrasonic diagnosis. It was proved by clinical practice that all quality indexes achieved the desired effect.
Gelatin has the characteristics of simple preparation, stable quality, strong adhesion and enhanced efficacy. Carbomer, as a new type of polymer material, has excellent quality in daily chemicals and pharmaceutical excipients, and is an ideal adjuvant for preparing gelatin. Carbomer has a strong hygroscopicity. Pay attention to the sealing during storage, and avoid moisture absorption and caking in exposed air. If there is slight caking, it can become loose powder by gently patting and pressing, and the thickening effect will not be affected. Once the product is used, it is best to put it in a sealed container with desiccant.
