Application of EDTA-2K

EDTA-2K is a common complexing agent, which is white crystal powder. Because it can complex with calcium in blood to inactivate calcium and further lead to blood non coagulation, it is usually used to prepare anticoagulants, mainly used in the blood collection industry.

EDTA has two CAS numbers, mainly because one of them is actually potassium EDTA crystal hydrate. People often mistake the CAS numbers of these two kinds of EDTA, which makes people confused. The real situation is that the CAS number of EDTA-2K is 2001-94-7, and the CAS number of EDTA-2K dihydrate is 25102-12-9. The difference between them is that one molecule is two crystal water. The international blood Standards Committee recommends the use of EDTA-2K anticoagulant for whole blood cell count. EDTA-2K can be used as anticoagulant in vacuum blood collection to preserve leukocyte proliferation in a short time, prevent platelet aggregation and preserve platelets. In addition to being used as anticoagulant, EDTA-2K has many uses in industrial production, environmental optimization and other fields.

EDTA-2K can be used as a retarder for magnesium phosphate cement, a new gel material, compared with borax used in traditional magnesium phosphate cement. It has better retarding effect, can prolong the setting time of magnesium phosphate repair system, ensure the strength of magnesium phosphate cement, and make it more widely used in highway, bridge deck, runway and other rapid repair fields.

In oilfield production, EDTA-2K is also used as stabilizer to form desulfurization synergist, which can not only maintain the stability of desulfurization synergist, but also chelate calcium and magnesium ions in the operation system to be treated, so as to stabilize the water quality of the whole operation system. The desulfurizer synergist can effectively react with sulfide in the equipment to achieve the purpose of removing sulfide. It has good desulfurizing effect and ensures the safety of oilfield construction.

EDTA-2K is often used to prepare deodorant, such as toilet deodorant, deodorant for decomposing pesticides and odor molecules, etc. in addition, according to the description of relevant patents, the potassium salt of EDTA can be successively calcined at high temperature, pickled, washed and dried to prepare activated carbon.
