White odorless crystalline powder with sweet taste and hygroscopic properties. Soluble in water (235g/100g water, 25℃), glycerin, propylene glycol, slightly soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetic acid, phenol and acetamide solutions. Almost insoluble in most other organic solvents.

1 .Daily chemical industry sorbitol in toothpaste as excipient, moisturizer, antifreeze, adding up to 25 ~ 30%, can keep the paste lubrication, color, taste good; As an anti-drying agent in cosmetics (instead of glycerin), can enhance the extensibility and lubricity of emulsifier, suitable for long-term storage; Sorbitan fatty acid ester and its epoxy ethane adduct have the advantage of little irritation to skin and are widely used in cosmetics industry.

2.The food industry adds sorbitol to food to prevent drying and cracking of food and keep food fresh and soft. It is used in bread cake and has obvious effect. Sorbitol is less sweet than sucrose and is not used by certain bacteria, so it is an important raw material in the production of sugar-free candies and various anti-caries foods.
