Heparin sodium is an anticoagulant. It is a mucopolysaccharide. It is the sodium salt of glucosamine sulfate extracted from the intestinal mucosa of pigs, cattle and sheep. It is secreted by mast cells in human body and naturally exists in blood. Heparin sodium can prevent platelet aggregation and destruction, inhibit the transformation of fibrinogen into fibrin monomer, inhibit the formation of thromboplastin and fight against the formed thromboplastin, prevent the transformation of prothrombin into thrombin and fight against thrombin.
