Febantel , also known as phenylthiouguanidine, is mainly used for the treatment and control of gastrointestinal roundworm, lungworm and tapeworm in cattle, sheep, pigs, horses and other animals. It has the characteristics of high efficiency, low toxicity, short residence time in the body and large safety range. As a precursor, it is metabolized in vivo (cyclization) to the antiparasitic drug fenbendazole or further metabolized (sulfur atom oxidation) to opendazole.
