Sorbitol, also known as sorbitol, hexanol, D-sorbitol, is a non-volatile polysaccharide alcohol with stable chemical properties, not easy to be oxidized by air, soluble in water, hot ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, Among alcohol, cyclohexanol, phenol, acetone, acetic acid and dimethylformamide, it is widely distributed in natural plant fruits and is not easily fermented by various microorganisms. It has good heat resistance and does not decompose at high temperature (200 °C). It is separated from the mountain strawberry by French Boussingault, etc. The pH value of the saturated aqueous solution is Chemicalbook 6~7, and it is an isomer with mannitol, tyrol and galactitol, and has a cool sweetness. The sweetness is 65% of sucrose, low calorific value. With good hygroscopicity, it has a very wide range of functions in food, daily chemical, pharmaceutical and other industries. It can be used in food to prevent food drying, aging, prolong product shelf life, and effectively prevent sugar and salt in food. Crystallization can maintain the intensity balance of sweet, sour and bitter and increase food flavor. It can be obtained by hydrogenation of glucose under heating and pressure in the presence of a nickel catalyst.

      Application

    1. Sorbitol in the daily chemical industry is used as an excipient, humectant, and antifreeze in toothpaste. The addition amount can reach 25-30%, which can keep the paste smooth, with good color and taste; in cosmetics, it is used as an anti-drying agent (instead of Glycerol), which can enhance the extensibility and lubricity of the emulsifier, and is suitable for long-term storage; sorbitan fatty acid ester and its ethylene oxide adduct have the advantage of less skin irritation, and are widely used in the cosmetics industry. 2. In the food industry, adding sorbitol to food can prevent the food from cracking and keep the food fresh and soft. Used in bread and cakes, it has obvious effect. The sweetness of sorbitol is lower than that of sucrose, and it is not used by some bacteria. It is an important raw material for the production of sugar-free candy and various anti-caries foods. Since the metabolism of this product does not cause blood sugar to rise, it can also be used as a sweetener and nutrient for diabetic food. Sorbitol does not contain aldehyde groups, is not easily oxidized, and does not produce Maillard reactions with amino acids when heated. It has the physiological activity of Chemicalbook and can prevent the denaturation of carotenoids, edible fat and protein. Adding this product to concentrated milk can prolong the shelf life and improve the color and aroma of the small intestine. It has obvious stability and long-term preservation for fish sauce. effect. The same goes for jam preserves. 3. Sorbitol in the pharmaceutical industry can be used as a raw material for vitamin C production; it can also be used as a raw material for syrup, injection infusion, pharmaceutical tableting, as a drug dispersant, filler, cryoprotectant, anti-crystallization agent, Chinese medicine stabilizer, wetting agent , capsule plasticizer, sweetener, ointment base, etc. 4. Chemical industry Sorbitol rosin is a common raw material for architectural coatings, and can be used as plasticizers and lubricants in PVC resins and other polymers. It is complexed with iron, copper and aluminum ions in alkaline solution, and is used for bleaching and washing in the textile industry. Sorbitol and propylene oxide are used as starting materials to produce rigid polyurethane foam with certain flame retardant properties.

    Reactive Group:

    Alcohols and Polyols

    Reactivity Profile:

SORBITOL is an alcohol. Flammable and/or toxic gases are generated by the combination of alcohols with alkali metals, nitrides, and strong reducing agents. They react with oxoacids and carboxylic acids to form esters plus water. Oxidizing agents convert them to aldehydes or ketones. Alcohols exhibit both weak acid and weak base behavior. They may initiate the polymerization of isocyanates and epoxides.
