Nitrofurantoin is a yellow crystalline powder, odorless, bitter in taste, darkening in light, soluble in dimethylformamide, slightly soluble in acetone, very slightly soluble in ethanol, almost insoluble in water or chloroform. It is mainly used for urinary system infection caused by sensitive bacteria.

Nitrofurantoin is an excellent antibacterial drug with a wide antibacterial spectrum, rapid and complete absorption after oral administration and rapid excretion, with excretion in the urine up to 40-50%, and is commonly used in the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by various sensitive bacteria. It has effects on both Gram-negative and positive bacteria, mainly used for urinary tract infections caused by sensitive bacteria, especially for acute urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli and Proteus mirabilis.
