The disease scurvy is prevented and treated with vitamin C-containing foods or dietary supplements. Evidence does not support use in the general population for the prevention of the common cold.There is, however, some evidence that regular use may shorten the length of colds.It is unclear if supplementation affects the risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease, or dementia.It may be taken by mouth or by injection.

Functions and Applications

1. Vitamin C can be used as a nutritional supplement to prevent or treat scurvy.
2. The pharmacophore of vitamin C is ascorbate ion. In the body, vitamin C is an antioxidant because it protects the body from the threat of oxidants. Vitamin C is also a coenzyme.
3. Vitamin C is also an acidity regulator for antioxidants and preservatives.

4. Vitamin C can enhance blood vessel organization and reduce blood cholesterol levels. It has good preventive and therapeutic effects on arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease and adult diseases such as hypertension and stroke. In the absence of vitamin C, cholesterol is not easily broken down into bile acids, which increases serum cholesterol levels and can easily lead to vascular atherosclerosis and thrombosis.
