    Zinc Borate 

    (2ZnO.3B2O3zH2.3,5H2O.)

    Characteristics:

    Zinc Borate is a boron-based fire retardant with a chemical composition of xZnOyB2O3zH2O. The most commonly used grade have following structure 2ZnO.3B2O3zH2.3,5H2O. Flame Retardant; Smoke Suppressant; Synergist with antimony oxide; Synergist with Alumina Trihydrate (ATH) or Magnesium compounds; Acid Suppressant; Afterglow Suppressant; Char Promoter; Corrosion Inhibition; Low Tinting Strength; Specific Gravity of 2.77; Considered Low Toxicity.

     

    Applications:

    Zinc Borate can be used as a fire retardant in PVC, Polyolefins, Elastomers, Polyamides, Epoxy resins.In halogen-containing systems, ZB is used in conjunction with antimony oxide, while in halogen-free systems, it is normally used in conjunction with alumina trihydrate, magnesium hydroxide, or red phosphorus. In some particular application Zinc Borate can be used alone. Zinc Borate also a potent anti-fungal and anti-bacterial additives. 2% zinc borate in a compound can provide a distinct decrease in mold growth. It can be used for anti-corrosion, far-infrared absorption, timbers anti-pest and anti-bacteria handle and other fields.

    Appearance:

    Zinc borate appears as a white powder of variable composition. (typically 45% ZnO, 34% B2O3 and 20% H2O). Slightly soluble in water. The primary hazard is the threat to the environment. Immediate steps should be taken to limit its spread to the environment. It is used as a fungus and mildew inhibitor, to fire proof textiles, and for other uses.
