Silicon tetrafluoride is a colorless, non-flammable, corrosive and toxic gas with a pungent odor similar to hydrochloric acid. It is extremely toxic if inhaled. It is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula SiF4, a melting point of -90°C, a boiling point of -86°C, a refractive index of 1.207, a critical temperature of -1.5°C, a critical pressure of 5.07MPa, soluble in ethanol, nitric acid, and hydrofluoric acid, insoluble in ether, and its vapor is heavier than air. If exposed to high temperatures for a long time, the container may rupture violently and explode.
