Description

Ethanolamine

2-hydroxyethylamine, also known as ethanolamine, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C2H7NO.

At room temperature for colorless transparent viscous liquid, with hygroscopicity and ammonia odor. It can be miscible with water, ethanol and acetone, slightly soluble in benzene, ether, carbon tetrachloride, ethanol and chloroform. It reacts violently with sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid and other strong acids. React with inorganic and organic acids to form esters; Flammable, risk of burning when exposed to high temperatures, open flames or in contact with oxidants.

Monoethanolamine is an important corrosion inhibitor in boiler water treatment, automobile engine coolant, drilling and cutting oils, and various other lubricants. However, an ethanolamine is not suitable for combination with nitrite corrosion inhibitors to prevent the formation of nitrosamine carcinogens.
