Tetrachloroethylene, also known as perchloroethylene, is an organic chemical widely used in dry cleaning and metal degreasing, as well as in the manufacture of other chemicals and consumer goods. It is a non flammable liquid at room temperature. Easy to evaporate, with a stimulating sweet taste.

Due to its low relative toxicity, good thermal stability, strong oil removal ability, and recyclability, tetrachloroethylene is widely used in the dry cleaning industry. From the 1940s to 2012, it has been safely and successfully used in the dry cleaning industry for over 60 years and is recognized as a good dry cleaning solvent by the laundry industry.

Tetrachloroethylene has a wide range of uses, mainly as an organic solvent, dry cleaning agent, metal degreasing solvent, and also as an insect repellent.
Tetrachloroethylene can be used as a fatty extraction agent, fire extinguishing agent, smoke screen agent, etc. It can also be used to synthesize trichloroethylene and fluorinated organic compounds.
