Tiamulin fumarate

Tiamulin fumarate is widely used to control infectious diseases in pigs, including swine dysentery and endemic pneumonia. Tiamulin is a bacteriostatic antibiotic belonging to the pleuromutilins group, but is bactericidal against sensitive bacteria at very high concentrations. Like macrolide antibiotics, tiamulin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosome.
Tiamulin has good antibacterial activity against many Gram-positive bacteria, including most Staphylococcus and Streptococcus (except group D Streptococcus), and also has good antibacterial activity against Mycoplasma and Treponema hyodysenteriae. In addition to having a certain effect on Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, some Escherichia coli and certain strains of Klebsiella, the antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria is very weak.
Tiamulin is mainly used to treat pneumonia and treponemal dysentery in pigs caused by sensitive Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, and chronic respiratory disease in chickens.
