Cyclopentane, also known as pentamethylene, is a cyclic alkane with the molecular formula C5H10. Molecular weight 70.13. Flammable liquid. Melting point -94.4 ℃, boiling point 49.3 ℃, relative density 0.7460, refractive index 1.4068. Soluble in alcohols, ethers, and hydrocarbons, insoluble in water. Cyclopentane is not a planar ring and has two conformations: envelope conformation and half chair conformation. The carbon carbon carbon bond angle is close to 109 ° 28 Chemicalbook ', the molecular tension is not high, the ring is relatively stable, and the chemical properties are similar to alkanes. The mass fraction of lethal concentration for rodents in the air is 3.8 × 10-2. It reacts with sulfuric acid to form a reddish yellow color, and reacts with nitric acid to obtain nitrocyclopentane and glutaric acid. Method: It can be obtained from petroleum ether fractions, or from high-pressure cracking of cyclohexane in the presence of aluminum, or catalytic hydrogenation of cyclopentene and cyclopentadiene. Usage: Mainly used as a solvent.

Cycloalkanes are saturated hydrocarbons in which the carbon atoms in a molecule are arranged in a circular pattern and there is a sufficient number of hydrogen atoms to combine with them. The cycloalkanes present in petroleum are mainly cyclopentane and cyclohexane. The melting point, boiling point, and relative density of cycloalkanes are higher than those of corresponding straight chain alkanes. High octane straight run gasoline can be produced using cycloalkane aromatic crude oil, which has better anti knock properties than n-alkanes. Low sulfur paraffin naphthenic crude oil is not only easy to process, but also a good raw material for producing high-grade lubricants. Petroleum containing a large number of polycyclic and long-chain cycloalkanes is an ideal raw material for high-quality lubricants. At room temperature and atmospheric pressure, cycloalkanes with less than 4 carbon atoms are considered gases, those with more than 4 carbon atoms are considered liquids, cyclopropane and cyclobutane are considered gases, cyclopentane to cycloundecane are considered liquids, and those with more than cyclododecane are considered solids. The chemical properties of cycloalkanes are related to the number of carbon atoms forming the ring. The three element and four element rings are called small rings, the five to seven element rings are normal rings, the eight to eleven element rings are intermediate rings, and the twelve element and above rings are large rings. The nuclear bonding lines of carbon atoms in the small ring are inconsistent with the axis of the bonding orbitals. In cyclopropane, the rings composed of carbon atom nuclei are equilateral triangles with an angle of 60 ° each. However, the sp3 hybrid orbital axes of the two carbon carbon single bonds formed by each carbon atom have an angle of 104 ° (see Figure 2), and the orbitals do not overlap to the maximum extent, causing significant angular tension. Cyclobutane also exhibits angular tension, but it is smaller. This results in poor stability of the small ring, chemical properties similar to olefins, and the ability to undergo ring opening addition reactions with many reagents. Other cyclic hydrocarbons have low or no angular tension, and their chemical properties are similar to those of alkanes, making them less prone to ring opening reactions. If they interact with hydrogen, hydrogenation of cyclohexane and higher-order cyclic hydrocarbons is more difficult....

Used as a standard substance for chromatographic analysis, solvent, engine fuel, azeotropic distillation agent. Harmful effects and toxic symptoms: Inhalation of high concentrations of cyclopentane can cause central nervous system suppression, despite its low acute toxicity. The symptoms caused by acute exposure first include excitement, followed by imbalance, and even numbness and coma. Rarely die from respiratory failure. Someone from Chemicalbook has reported that feeding animals this product orally can cause severe diarrhea, leading to collapse of blood vessels in the heart, lungs, and liver, as well as cerebral degeneration. Improvement of production equipment through protective measures. Use skin protective ointment or wear gloves to protect the skin. During regular medical examinations, pay attention to potential skin and respiratory irritation, as well as any complications of the kidneys and liver. Transportation requires a Class I flammable liquid. Hazard code; 61013. During transportation, the container must be marked with a "flammable liquid" label.
