What is Glycerol Formal ?

Glycerol acetal (GF) is a light glycerol acetal consisting of about 60% 5-hydroxy-1, 3-dioxane and about 40% 4-hydroxymethyl-1,3 chemicalbook-dioxane. In the presence of an acidic catalyst, glycerol reacts with formaldehyde to produce acetone.

The potential of GF as an injection solvent for toxicity tests has been reported.

1.Glycerol formal is a colorless transparent viscous liquid. As a solvent of veterinary medicine, it can improve drug stability, increase drug solubility, reduce drug residue and enhance drug efficacy.

2.It has become a substitute for propylene glycol, pyrrolidone and glycerol used in veterinary medicine injections. It is widely used in veterinary medicine because of its long effect time, no side effects and no toxicity.

3.It can be used in the preparation of isoniazid antidote, abamectin injection, long-acting oxytetracycline injection, compound iodosalamine sodium chloride, floxacin and other related liquid preparations.
