Tetraenoestrone, also known as allylgestrin (altrenogest), is a synthetic oral progestin.Altrenogest (A35957, RU2267) is a progestogen structurally related to the veterinary steroid. It is a synthetic trienic C21 steroidal progestin belonging to the 19-nortestosterone class. It is an orally active progestogen. As with all steroids, altrenogest acts through its lipid solubility which allows it to penetrate into target cells and then bind to specific receptors. In veterinary medicine, altrenogest is used to synchronise estrus in mares and sows.
