Selank (a.k.a. TP-7) is a synthetic heptapeptide (i.e. seven amino acids long) derived from a naturally occuring peptide in your body known as tuftsin: Tuftsin, which is derived from the heavy chain of human immunoglobulin, is a tetrapeptide (Thr–Lys–Pro–Arg) that stimulates the phagocytic activity of polymorphonuclear leukocytes. (Tuftsin was named for Tufts University where the tetrapeptide was discovered).

It is activated in the spleen and bound to a carrier leukokinin molecule, a gamma-globulin which coats the polymorph.

In plain English, tuftsin is a critical part of a properly-functioning immune system.
