1-naphthol, also known as alpha-naphthol, menaphthol, and α-hydroxynaphthol, is a key intermediate in the production of the insecticide menaphthol. 1-naphthol is used in the dye industry to produce acid yellow 1, acid orange 20, mordant black 3, mordant black 11, solvent red 3, solvent orange 5, oil palm GB, etc., in the pharmaceutical industry can be used to manufacture preservatives and anti-corrosion drugs, and is also an effective antioxidant for many aldehydes and mineral oils and vegetable oils. Widely used in synthetic spices, rubber anti-aging agents and color film.

The demand for 1-naphthol is roughly only about 5% of that for 2-naphthol. But 1-naphthol is in high demand as a raw material for the insecticide carbaryl. The intermediates derived from 1-naphthol are n-phenyl-1-naphthol amine, n-ethyl-1-naphthol amine, n-cyclohexyl-1-naphthol amine, 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid, 1-naphthol 2-sulfonic acid, 1-naphthol 4-sulfonic acid, 1, 7-Cretinic acid, acetamido-7-naphthol, 2, 4-dinitronaphthol, etc. In the dye industry, the production of acid yellow 1, acid orange 20, mordant black 3, mordant black 11, solvent red 3, solvent orange 5, oil palm GB, etc. In the pharmaceutical industry, it can be used to manufacture preservatives and anti-mild rheumatism drugs. It is also an effective antioxidant for many aldehydes and mineral and vegetable oils, and is widely used in synthetic fragrances, rubber antioxidants and color film.
