Description

Aflatoxin (AFT) is a toxin produced by certain strains of Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus. In 1993, aflatoxin was classified as a naturally occurring carcinogen by the World Health Organization (WHO) Cancer Research Institute. Aflatoxin is 68 times more toxic than arsenic and 10 times more toxic than potassium cyanide, and is extremely destructive to liver tissue. Data show that ingesting 1 mg of aflatoxin may cause cancer, and ingesting 20 mg at a time can be fatal.
