Zirconium Nitrate, or Zirconium(IV) Nitrate, CAS No. 13746-89-9, molecular formula Zr(NO₃)₄·5H₂O, EC number 237-324-9, UN 2728. It is commonly supplied as pentahydrate white crystalline powder, strongly hygroscopic, freely soluble in water and soluble in alcohol. Its aqueous solution shows weak acidity.
Zirconium nitrate is an important zirconium precursor material. Upon thermal decomposition, it produces high-purity zirconium dioxide without chloride contamination, which makes it widely adopted in sol-gel synthesis, hydrothermal preparation of nano zirconia, catalyst carrier manufacturing, ceramic thin film deposition and metal surface treatment. It can also serve as analytical reagent for zirconium element testing, raw material for manufacturing other zirconium salts, and additive for coating and preservative formulations.
We supply Zirconium Nitrate in multiple purity grades and packaging options. Custom specifications, COA, TDS and SDS documents can be provided upon request. Stable bulk shipment and flexible lead time for global customers. Our Zirconium Nitrate has strict quality control on Zr content, heavy metal impurities and insoluble matters, suitable for industrial, ceramic, catalyst and research applications.

    5.1 Extinguishing media

    Suitable: Water spray.

Unsuitable: Dry chemical, foam, CO₂ (Do not use inert powders; oxidiser may sustain fire).
5.2 Special hazards arising from the substance

Oxidising solid. May accelerate combustion of combustibles. Thermal decomposition releases toxic nitrogen oxide fumes (NOₓ).
    5.3 Advice for firefighters

Wear full fire suit and self-contained breathing apparatus. Keep containers cool with water spray. Avoid run-off entering drains.

    6. Accidental release measures

6.1 Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Evacuate non-essential personnel. Avoid dust formation. Wear PPE. Keep away from combustibles.
    6.2 Environmental precautions

Prevent spillage into sewer, surface water and soil.
6.3 Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Small spill: Collect dry material with inert non-combustible absorbent. Do not use sawdust or organic absorbents. Place into suitable closed waste container. Clean area with water.
    6.4 Reference to other sections

    See Sections 8 & 13.

    7. Handling and storage

    7.1 Precautions for safe handling

Avoid dust generation. Do not mix with organics, reducing agents, metal powders. Keep away from heat and ignition sources. Ensure good ventilation. Wash hands after use.
7.2 Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Store in tightly closed container, cool and dry place. Protect from moisture (hygroscopic). Separate from combustibles, reducing substances, strong bases.
    7.3 Specific end use(s)

    See Section 1.2.

    8. Exposure controls/personal protection

    8.1 Control parameters

No occupational exposure limit established for zirconium nitrate. Control dust exposure.
    8.2 Exposure controls
    • Respiratory protection: Dust mask if ventilation insufficient.
    • Hand protection: Chemical resistant gloves (nitrile).
    • Eye protection: Safety goggles / face shield.
    • Skin protection: Lab coat / chemical resistant work clothes.

    9. Physical and chemical properties

    Appearance: White crystalline solid
