Tetrodotoxin, scientifically known as tetrodotoxin (TTX), is a natural sodium channel blocker (S1SCB) that blocks the passageway on the cell membrane to prevent information transmission. It is this particularity that makes pufferfish so "lethal"! Once you eat its toxic meat by mistake, the release of the toxin with super strong endurance can cause paralysis of the diaphragm, leading to suffocation and death. The toxin contained in pufferfish is a complex compound of polyhydroxy perhydromethylquinazoline. The elemental composition is approximately C10-12H15-19O8-10N3, weakly alkaline, and colorless crystals. The lethal dose LD50 for mice is 5×10-9—10×10-9, and 0.3 mg will kill a person of medium weight within 1-2 hours. Tetrodotoxin is generally found in the blood, ovaries, skin, and liver. However, the muscles of the two-spot pufferfish also contain strong toxins, and the dark-colored pufferfish has the strongest kidney toxicity. The toxicity of pufferfish varies with the season, and is strongest in winter and spring. The toxicity of young fish is no less than that of adult fish. Pufferfish toxin is stable, and salting, sun exposure, and normal cooking cannot detoxify it. If it is mixed with non-toxic fish, the non-toxic fish can also be contaminated by its toxin. Pufferfish toxin acts on the nerve center and can cause respiratory and circulatory failure.  Product Detail
