    Air and Water Reactions:

    Flammable. Soluble in water.

    Reactive Group:

    Alcohols and Polyols

    Reactivity Profile:

METHYL ISOBUTYL CARBINOL is an alcohol. Flammable and/or toxic gases are generated by the combination of alcohols with alkali metals, nitrides, and strong reducing agents. They react with oxoacids and carboxylic acids to form esters plus water. Oxidizing agents convert them to aldehydes or ketones. Alcohols exhibit both weak acid and weak base behavior. They may initiate the polymerization of isocyanates and epoxides. This compound is incompatible with strong oxidizers (NIOSH, 2016).

    Peroxide Forming Chemical:

4-Methyl-2-pentanol|B: Compounds that form peroxides on concentration (distillation/evaporation)|1 samples had 20-30 ppm peroxide; age >1 yrs|Kelly

    Flammable Limits:

Class II Combustible Liquid: Fl.P. at or above 100°F and below 140°F.

    Physical Dangers:

The vapour is heavier than air and may travel along the ground; distant ignition possible.
