L-theanine  was firstly discovered from the natural plant tea, the highest content in green tea, belongs to the unique free amino acid in tea: it is similar to glutamine and glutamate, the active substances in the brain, in its chemical structure. L-theanine was firstly isolated and identified from green tea by Dr Sakado in 1950, which is a special amino acid not involved in protein composition, and has not yet been found in higher plants other than the tea tree.In 1964, the Japanese FDA approved the use of fermented L-L-theanine as a food additive, and the U.S. FDA also gave L-L-theanine the GRAS classification in 1985. GRAS means ‘ Generally Recognised as Safe ’ , and although it has nothing to do with ‘ health value ’ , it means that it can be freely used in a variety of foods, and the European Union also approved L-theanine as a safe food ingredient in the 1990s.

The effects of theanine and its principles of L-theanine

1. Relaxing and sleeping effect:

People emit different brain waves in different mental states. As the concentration of theanine increases, the area of ɑ wave generated in the head expands.
