Purpose

It is an antitumor drug, and also a synthetic raw material for antitumor drugs such as dioxamycin and glyoxalase inhibitors. Shikimic acid is a key precursor in the synthesis of many alkaloids, aromatic amino acids, indole derivatives, and chiral drugs. More recently, shikimic acid has been used as A starting material for oseltamivir (the active ingredient of Tamiflu), a neuraminidase inhibitor that can be used to treat and prevent influenza A and influenza B. Used as a standard for quantitative determination of shikimic acid in the apex part of roots. It is also used as a substrate for shikimic kinase tests.

Pharmacological effects

Shikimic acid can inhibit platelet aggregation by affecting arachidonic acid metabolism, inhibit arteriovenous thrombosis and cerebral thrombosis, and has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. It can also be used as an intermediate of antiviral and anticancer drugs, and also has the effect of preventing avian flu drugs "Tamiflu" and "anti-influenza".
