1. Description：

M-xylene, also known as 1, 3-xylene, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C8H10. It is a colorless transparent liquid with a smell similar to toluene. It is insoluble in water and can be miscible in most organic solvents such as ethanol, ether and chloroform.

Preparation
This product is a by-product of the production of p-xylene, see p-xylene for the production method.

Use
It is mainly used as a solvent for the manufacture of isophthalic acid, m-methylbenzoic acid, isophthalonitrile and so on. It can also be used as raw materials and dye intermediates for medicine, spices, oil soluble color forming agents for color film.

See xylene. The lethal concentration of the product in mice was 50mg/L.

Packing method: small open steel barrels, threaded glass bottles, iron lid pressed glass bottles, plastic bottles or metal barrels (cans) outside ordinary wooden cases, threaded glass bottles, plastic bottles or tinned steel barrels (cans) outside full floor lattice boxes, fiberboard boxes or plywood boxes.

Storage precautions: Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat. The temperature of the reservoir should not exceed 30℃. Keep the container sealed. Should be stored separately from oxidizer, do not mix storage. Explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities are adopted. Do not use mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to spark. The storage area should be equipped with leak emergency treatment equipment and suitable containment materials.

Protective measure

Respiratory system protection: When the concentration in the air exceeds the standard, wear a filter gas mask (half mask). In case of emergency rescue or evacuation, it is recommended to wear isolation breathing apparatus.
Eye protection: Wear chemical safety glasses.
Body protection: Wear protective work clothes.
Hand protection: Wear rubber oil-resistant gloves.
Other protection: Smoking, eating and drinking are prohibited at the work site. After work, shower and change clothes. Maintain good hygiene.

First aid measure

Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and rinse skin thoroughly with soap and water.
Eye contact: Lift eyelids and rinse with running water or saline. Seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Quickly remove from the scene to fresh air. Keep your airway clear. Administer oxygen if breathing is difficult. If breathing stops, give artificial respiration immediately. Seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Drink enough warm water to induce vomiting. Seek medical attention.
