Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol, which is a poorly digestible carbohydrate that either naturally occurs in fruits or is semi-artificially produced and added as a low calorie sweetener to various commercial foods.

Sorbitol is chemically similar to fructose and mannitol.Other names for sorbitol: sorbit, glucitol.

Sorbitol has good moisturizing properties and can be used as a moisturizer in the production of toothpaste and cosmetics instead of glycerol. In the food industry, sorbitol is a A kind of sweetener that is hygroscopic, decrease food from drying out, and keeps it fresh and soft; it does not cause blood sugar to rise, and can be used as a sweetener ; adding sorbitol to concentrated milk can extend the shelf life. It has obvious stabilizing and long-term preservation effects on fish sauces and jam preserves, and can improve the color and aroma of sausages.
