The industrial product is a white powder. It is almost insoluble in water and alcohol, but soluble in acids and ammonium chloride solutions.

Purpose

It is used for the preparation of fireworks and signal flares, and also as an auxiliary material for ceramic coatings and optical glass. Barium carbonate can be used in the manufacturing of various electronic components such as electronic ceramics, PTC thermistors and capacitors. Barium carbonate is mainly used in the manufacture of optical glass, picture tube glass, barium magnetic materials and capacitors, etc., as well as in steel carburizing and metal surface treatment; it is also used as a raw material for other salt-based locks, ceramics, enamelware, pigments, paints, rubber and welding rods. It can also be used as a water purifying agent and a rat killer.
