Product Detail

Mannitol, also known as mannite or manna sugar, is an isomer of sorbitol. Its molecular formula is C₆H₁₄O₆, with a relative molecular mass of 182.17. It appears as a white crystalline powder, has a sweet taste similar to sucrose, is soluble in water, , and soluble in aqueous solutions. It has good chemical stability.

Mannitol is widely present in the leaves, stems, and roots of plants, such as brown algae, pumpkin, onion, edible fungi, lichens, carrots, etc. The white powder on the surface of dried persimmons is mannitol, and the main natural source is seaweed plants like kelp.

It is an excellent dehydrating and diuretic agent. In the medical field, it can be used to reduce intracranial pressure, intraocular pressure, and treat kidney diseases, as well as cystic fibrosis. It is also used in the manufacture of most tablets, chewable tablets such as hangover remedies and mouth fresheners, and its granular form serves as a tabletting excipient.

In the food industry, due to its low water - absorption property, mannitol can be used to prevent sticking in foods like maltose, chewing gum, and rice cakes, and can also be used as a low - calorie, low - sugar sweetener.

In industrial production, mannitol stearate is used in the fine chemical industry. Mannitol can also be used to prevent thickening of antacids, and in the manufacture of rosin esters, artificial glycerol resins, explosives, detonators, etc., and as a plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride in the plastics industry.

It can be prepared by extraction method (extracted from kelp, seaweed, etc.), chemical synthesis method (using fructose and glucose as raw materials), and biosynthesis method.
