    Zinc oxide (ZnO), commonly known as zinc white, is an oxide of zinc. Insoluble in water, soluble in acid and strong base. Zinc oxide is a commonly used chemical additive, widely used in plastics, silicate products, synthetic rubber, lubricants, paints and coatings, ointment, adhesive, food, batteries, flame retardants and other products. Zinc oxide has large band gap and exciton binding energy, high transparency, excellent room temperature luminous performance, and is used in liquid crystal displays, thin film transistors, light-emitting diodes and other products in the semiconductor field.     Zinc oxide can be used as a white pigment for printing and dyeing, papermaking, matches and pharmaceutical industries.
    In the rubber industry, it is used as a vulcanization activator, reinforcing agent and colorant for natural rubber, synthetic rubber and latex. Also used in the manufacture of pigments zinc chrome yellow, zinc acetate, zinc carbonate, etc. In addition, it is also used in electronic laser materials, phosphors, feed additives, catalysts, etc. In medicine, it is used to make ointment, zinc paste, plaster, etc.

    ZINC OXIDE is insoluble in water. What little solubility it has yields aqueous solutions that are neutral in pH. Intimate mixtures of zinc oxide and chlorinated rubber with or without hydrocarbons or chlorinated solvent react violently, even explosively upon heating [Chem. Trade J., 1962, 151, 672]. Slow addition of zinc oxide to cover the surface of linseed oil varnish caused generation of heat and ignition, [Chem. Trade J., 1933, 92, 278].
