Validamycin A is a systemic antifungal antibiotic produced by the fermentation of Streptomyces hygroscopicus var. limoneus. It is a highly effective fungicide and plant disease management agent, primarily used to control sheath blight in rice and other Rhizoctonia-related diseases in various crops. Validamycin A inhibits trehalase enzyme activity in fungal pathogens, leading to energy depletion and fungal death.
