    OverviewN-methylaniline is the main product in the N-alkyl aromatic amine series and an important intermediate in fine chemicals. It has a wide range of uses. The first production unit in my country was built with assistance from the former Soviet Union in the 1950s. The product is mainly used to make explosives and is often used to blend straight-run gasoline. Since straight-run gasoline has more normal alkanes and a lower octane number, generally around 1.5 %, some technicians use straight-run gasoline as the base oil for blending gasoline and add N-methylaniline to increase the octane number, achieving the goal of low investment and high efficiency. Physical and chemical propertiesN-methylaniline is a colorless oily liquid at room temperature. It is soluble in ethanol, ether, and chloroform, insoluble in water, and is not easy to evaporate and lose, but it is also not conducive to distribution in the cylinders of multi-cylinder engines. It has stable properties and is not easy to decompose in air and dark environments. The main characteristics of blended gasoline with N-methylaniline antiknock agent are odor, high density, unstable unwashed colloid, low olefin value, and the need for auxiliary antiknock agents such as MTBE and MMT. Applications N-methylaniline is a widely used fine chemical product, mainly used in the production of pesticides, dyes, dye intermediates, rubber additives and explosives neutralizers, and can be used as a solvent and acid acceptor, as an organic synthesis intermediate, acid absorbent and solvent.
