Glycerine, or glycerol is a simple polyol compound. It is a sweet, colorless, odorless, nontoxic and viscous liquid. It can absorb moisture from air and also can absorb h ydrogen s ulfide, sulfu r dioxide and h ydrogen cyanide. It is insoluble in benzene, chloroform, carbo n tetrachlorid e, carbo n disulfid e, petroleum ether and oil.
