    δ-Pentyl lactone, abbreviated as DVL, is a colorless to pale yellow oily liquid with a boiling point of 218℃ (at normal pressure) and a flash point of 107℃. It is a versatile fine chemical intermediate and is widely used in pharmaceutical intermediates, flavor and fragrance, polyesters, polyurethanes, special solvents, coatings, and other fields.   Delta-pentyl lactone is an organic synthesis intermediate and a pharmaceutical research intermediate. It can be used in laboratory organic research processes and chemical and pharmaceutical synthesis processes.  

    The most common name for this substance is α,α-dichlorotoluene. It is a relatively important organic synthetic intermediate in both industry and laboratories.

    1. Production of benzaldehyde: This is one of its most important industrial applications. It can be efficiently converted into benzaldehyde through acid hydrolysis or by reacting with urotropine (the Sommelet reaction). \ce{C6H5CHCl2 + H2O -> C6H5CHO + 2HCl}
    2. Synthesis of benzoic acid and its derivatives: Through further oxidation, benzoic acid can be prepared.
    3. Synthesis of nitrogen-containing compounds:
    · Reacting with ammonia or amines can produce benzoimide amides or their derivatives.
    · It is used for synthesizing isonitriles (when reacting with AgCN).
    4. Synthesis of other functional group compounds:
    · Can react with sodium thiol to form sulfides.
    · Under specific conditions, it can be converted into benzonitrile.
