Product Detail

Lithium tetraborate is a white crystalline solid. Its melting point is 930 °C. It is slightly soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol and other organic solvents. It usually occurs as a pentahydrate. Lithium pentaborate (Li₂B₁₀O₁₆) is usually an octahydrate, a white powder with a relative density of 1.72; it loses all its crystalline water at 300–350 °C. Both compounds can be prepared by the fusion reaction of lithium hydroxide and boric acid. They are used as ceramic glazes.
