Description

Overview: Canagliflozin (1S)-1,5-dehydro-1-C-[3-[[5-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-thienyl]methyl]-4-methylphenyl]-D-glucanol, jointly developed by Tanabe Mitsubishi Corporation and Johnson & Johnson, was approved by the US FDA on March 29, 2013, and is the first FDA-approved sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It was approved by the European Commission (EC) on November 25, 2013, for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults. Canagliflozin lowers blood glucose levels by inhibiting SGLT2, preventing the reabsorption of glucose in the renal tubules into the bloodstream and causing it to be excreted in the urine. Uses: 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-trimethylsilyl-D-glucosyl-1,5-lactone is an antidiabetic drug and an intermediate of dapagliflozin. 2,3,4,6-Tetra-O-trimethylsilyl-D-glucosyl-1,5-lactone is used as a reagent for the synthesis of trans-cyclohexane-containing C-glucose and as an inhibitor of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2.
